Disney’s Filming of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Gets Underway in Dominica
by TheDominican.net Newsdesk

Filming of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest has begun in earnest in Dominica and is expected to run until late May.

pirtaes 2 poster The sequel to the hugely popular The Curse of the Black Pearl will star Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Stellan Skarsgard, Naomie Harris, Yun-Fat Chow and Keith Richards.

The story will focus on the spectral Davey Jones, who is trying to collect on a spiritual debt Jack Sparrow owes him. Unless Sparrow can finagle his way out of the situation, he'll be sailing the ghost ship The Flying Dutchman, cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation.

And as if that were not enough, Captain Jack's problems throw a huge wrench into the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack's misadventures.

Filming is taking place at several locations throughout the island, including Londonderry on the north east coast, where a river and beach scene will be filmed, Hampstead Beach, Blenheim Quarry, and Autou in Vieille Case where Disney is constructing a 16 th century church to be used as one of the main sets during the filming process.

The film is directed by Gore Verbinski and is set for release on July 7, 2006.

Tourism officials on the island expect the filming to contribute significantly to the economy and are counting on the film to serve as a promotional tool for Dominica.
