Roseau, Dominica (TDN)
The United Workers Party- Team Dominica notes with deep concern the announcement by the Government of the United States imposing a partial travel ban on citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The partial ban applies to both immigrants and non immigrants.
This development is troubling and regrettable. It has serious implications for Dominican nationals who wish to travel to the United States for education, business, medical care, family reunification, and other lawful purposes. Dominicans have long maintained strong people-to-people ties with the United States, and these restrictions seriously undermine these ties.
While we recognize the sovereign right of the United States to determine its immigration and border security policies, this decision raises legitimate questions about the actions, policies, or failures of the Dominica government that may have contributed to Dominica being placed in this position. The people of Dominica deserve full transparency.
We therefore call on the Government of Dominica to:
- Provide an immediate and clear explanation to the nation regarding the circumstances that led to this partial travel ban;
- Engage in urgent, high-level diplomatic discussions with U.S. authorities to address the concerns raised and to seek a timely resolution;
- Outline concrete corrective measures being taken to restore confidence in Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Program; and
- Place the national interest above all political considerations in resolving this matter.
It is essential that ordinary Dominicans—students, families, workers, and the diaspora—are not made to bear the consequences of poor governance, weak oversight, or a failure to act decisively when concerns were raised about the Citizenship By Investment Program.
We reaffirm our commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and international reputation of the Dominican people, who are innocent bystanders to the reckless actions of the Roosevelt Skerrit administration. Dominica must be governed in a manner that upholds the highest standards of accountability, security, and international cooperation.
The United Workers Party – Team Dominica will continue to monitor this situation closely and will support all credible efforts aimed at having this restriction reviewed and ultimately lifted in the best interest of the nation. END
