DFA boss presents strategic plan

Patrick John regains control of DFA.
The new Dominica Football Association (DFA) President Patrick John presented his strategic plan to move the sport forward over the next two years.

John, who regained the reigns of power last month after being ousted in 2006 by Dexter Francis, is confident initiatives outlined in the plan will advance football in the country.

As promised, I have submitted my two-year developmental plan to the Board of Management for their approval, John said.

The other executive members went through. They made a few additions and had some concerns clarified. This plan will now be revised and sent to FIFA and to CONCACAF. I believe that what we have included in this plan, will move the sport closer to where it should have been, John added.

According to John, a former Dominica prime minister, one of the initiatives contained in the document deals with youth football.

One of the things we are taking on board is the question of the academies. We have a few academies around the country and our intention is not to compete with these academies but to provide support and technical assistance to them.

We will be calling all the persons in charge of these academies to a meeting where we can hear their concerns and to see how best we can move forward collectively, he added.

Another initiative contained in the document is the development of womens football. The DFA has acquired the services of a German national, who will be responsible for recruiting, training and working with local womens footballers and preparing the national side for regional and international competition.

Club structure is another initiative the new DFA boss believes will help raise the standard of football. E-mail to a friend
