The Dominica-Barbados football World Cup qualifying game ended in a one all draw in Roseau. Dominica took the early lead with a wonderful goal from star Dominican forward Richard Pacquette in the 20th minute.
Barbados equalized in the 42nd minute with a goal from Jeffrey Williams. The second half saw both sides squander a few easy chances. Coach Erikson Christopher said that he was impressed with the quality of the Dominican players and was confident moving forward.
The second leg is now scheduled for Bridgetown, Barbados on March 26. The winner of the mini series will go on to play the United States in June. The winner of that series will then play against Cuba, and the eventual winner will secure a place in the finals of the 2010 World Cup scheduled for South Africa.
Seven overseas based players were named in the squad that included former West Indies wicket keeper Wayne Philip.
In the last World Cup qualifiers, Dominica lost to Mexico.
