Ten finalists for Calypso showdown during Dominica Real Mas 2010

Nine calypsonians emerged victorious at the semi finals of the Calypso competition held at the Newtown Savannah on Saturday night. The event was carried live by theDominican.net radio.
The nine, Soul Pous, Checker, Sye, Daddy Chess, Observer, Lady Star, Tasher-P, Explosion, and The Bob won from a field of twenty-one and will face off against reigning calypso King Karessah on the evening of February 13, 2010.
By virtue of winning the competition in 2009, Karessah will automatically defend his crown this year at the finals.
Thousands turned out for the competition, which saw veteran calypsonian Scrunter fail to make it through to the finals while newcomers Soul Pous, Tasher-P and Explosion will participate in the finals for the very first time.
Three-time calypso King De Dice and two time winner De Hunter, among the finest local calypsonians, will also not participate in this year’s finals.
The calypso finals are considered among the highlights of Dominica carnival festival season, which got underway last Saturday. It will be broadcast live on theDominican.net radio.
