Windies struggle in second test against Sri Lanka
See all the cricket scorecards at Live CRICKET

A masterful 80 by Darren Bravo was all that stood in the way of Sri Lanka, as they closed out the third day of the second Test 222 runs ahead. Darren Bravo was assured as he notched up his second half-century in as many innings in Tests, even as his more illustrious team-mates struggled to come to terms with the skill and variation of the Sri Lankan attack.

The visitors looked good to end the day just three down as the gloom set in over Premadasa Stadium, but a double-strike from Tillakaratne Dilshan minutes before stumps meant Sri Lanka were still well in the hunt for a win and the visitors were left to ponder how they might save the Test.

West Indies 165 for 5 (Darren Bravo 80, Dwayne Bravo 1*, Baugh 4*) trail Sri Lanka 387 for 9 dec (Sangakkara 150, Samaraweera 80, Roach 5-100) by 222 runs.

Prosecutor withdraws case against two murder accused

Police in Dominica have withdrawn charges against two men who were held in the brutal triple slaying that took place in November 2009. In a stunning reversal at the courts on Friday, the Prosecutor told Magistrate Candia John that he was withdrawing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder against Curtis “Shakes” Richards of Newtown and Andy Prosper of Morne Prosper exactly a year after the murders.

In November of last year police charged the two men in connection with the deaths of Allan Bardouille of Newtown, Mannison Thomas of Fond St. Jean and Kenneth Birmingham of Kingshill whose bodies were found riddled with bullets in a boat 26 miles off the coast of Salisbury on November 3, 2009.

The two men have been out on $500 000 bail since last December. A trial date was originally set for March 9, 2010, but in a sign of just how complex this case was, the prosecutor told the court that his office would not be ready to begin the proceedings by that date.

No explanation was given for the freeing of the men and no new arrests have been made in the year old case.

Antigua-based regional airline LIAT will introduce a scheduled freighter service early next month. The announcement was made at a press conference in Dominica on Monday, by LIAT's Director of Ground Operations for Cargo and Quikpak Wilbur Edwards who highlighted the need for the service.

Carnival Victory cruise line to eliminate Dominica stop

Citing fuel costs and passenger feedback, Carnival Cruise Lines will eliminate the Carnival Victory's call in Dominica on its year-round, seven-day cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Carnival said that it conducted a study of fuel consumption which found that by removing a port from the itinerary and replacing it with a sea day, generated significant savings. Also, Carnival said that Dominica was one of its weaker ports in terms of guest feedback.

It will continue to call in the five other scheduled ports on its itinerary, St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten.

Local man and Chinese worker both charged following altercation

Several Chinese workers then pushed their way into Joseph’s house where he claimed he was forced to defend himself with a cutlass. Subsequent to the altercation, and following an intervention by Member of Parliament Rayburn Blackmore, Joseph was taken into police custody.

He tell me that’s not his concern now, right now is just those Chiney he worried about.”
