BERKELEY, CA, Sep 03, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- With the onset of Global Healing's latest blood banking project, Helmer, Inc. has pledged further support of their mission to deliver modern medical solutions to the developing world.
The new project in the Commonwealth of Dominica will require new equipment, further training and an education campaign geared toward stimulating volunteer donation. As a non-profit, Global Healing relies on both its volunteer base to assist in trainings, audits and other tasks, as well as commercial contributors to supply equipment, supplies and infectious disease testing. Global Healing pitched the request to Helmer, Inc. after the first site visit in April 2008.
Global Healing became acquainted with Helmer, Inc. while engaged in its first blood bank project in Tbilisi, Georgia. Cindy Basso Eaton, the President of Global Healing, called David Helmer directly to discuss a contribution.
Helmer, Inc. was immediately supportive and donated a platelet incubator and agitator to the Jo Ann Medical Center in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2000. When Global Healing decided to involve itself in another blood bank project in Gyumri, Armenia, Helmer, Inc. was one of the first sources to turn to due to their desire to be involved in developing solutions that can address significant social problems.
"People are always asking me if it is easy or difficult to raise the cash and equipment needed for Global Healing's medical programs," Cindy Basso Eaton writes to David Helmer. "Of course, not everyone is as generous as you were with Helmer, Inc. but it is a great story of an organization that obviously has done well and wants to contribute to society, not just domestically but also on an international level. "
Helmer, Inc. responded to Global Healing's latest endeavor and offered equipment for the renovation of the Dominican blood bank.
They have assisted in financing a blood bank refrigerator and freezer, platelet incubator and agitator, cell washer, plasma thawer and refrigerated centrifuge to the blood bank in Dominica.
These items are critical at this point, considering that most of the current blood bank equipment there is either too old to merit repair nor can the government afford the cost of purchasing new equipment. Global Healing heavily relies on its corporate sponsors; it is their support that makes these international health programs possible.
