Creole colors can be seen everywhere in Dominica

This Reunion Year Dominica is showing its true colors. The streets of Roseau are bustling with economic energy, nationalistic pride, and the spirit of unity in our 30th year of Independence.
This crackling energy translates even more strongly in our minds eye by the sight of Creole colors worn by bus passengers on the Portsmouth to Roseau route and even on visitors to the Kalinago Reserve.
In church, at work and even in school flashes of green, gold, red peek through our usual humdrum wardrobes.
This year one talented Dominican is making a bold statement with her very own hands. Edna Mark, the owner of Creole Creations, designs and crafts bags, hats, neck ties, and other accessories using colorful Creole cloth.
Her creations can be seen in fashion boutiques across Roseau and in booths along the tourist-heavy Bayfront. Ms. Mark, a wife and mother of two who lives in Canefield East, is a busy housewife who manages to balance all her responsibilities at home while creating these beautiful accessories.
Her inspiration comes from many sources, she says. She recalls asking a woman on the street: Can I take a closer look at your bag? Just days later shed created a gorgeous colorful handbag with a beaded detail using her sewing machine and her God-given talent.
For Ms. Mark, Creole Creations is not work its her labor of love. She is a proud Dominican grateful for the opportunity to use her talent to showcase our nations beauty. She can be reached for orders or more information at [email protected].
