Roseau, Dominica (TDN) There is growing concern in Dominica as the number of persons who have gone missing without any trace rose to four. Police have been at a loss to explain the disappearances even as families continue to search vainly for their loved ones.

Over the course of less than one month 21- year-old Sherian Joseph who resided in Castle Bruce, 77-year-old Marcellin Williams of Soufriere, 52-year-old Bernadine Jean-Jacques of Newtown, and 44 year old Kathleen George of Grand Fond have been reported missing.

Joseph seemingly disappeared into thin air on May 15, 2016 after she told family members that she was going to visit someone in the village. Police subsequently held her boyfriend for questioning but he was released a short time later.

Residents of Castle Bruce organized search parties and embarked on several searches in the area without success. Joseph had no record of running away and because of the length of time she has been missing is feared dead.

On June 3, 2016 Williams who is believed to have been suffering from failing memory went for a walk and never returned. Surprisingly, there were no organized efforts to search for him and a family member told a local radio station that when he was reported missing to the Police she was told that there was nothing that could be done since it was election time. He is yet to be found.

Jean-Jacques who police say suffered from mental illness was last seen on June 7 and have not been seen since. She went missing while residing in Newtown. Meanwhile George who is believed to be similarly challenged went missing on June 10.

The spate of missing persons have rattled the local community, which is not accustomed to dealing with so many disappearances.

Meanwhile the Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information which may help in determining the whereabouts of those missing.
