Roseau, Dominica (TDN) Police in Dominica are reporting a major security breach at Dominica’s Central Registry Office with the disappearance of the keys to the institution’s offices.

The keys disappeared seemingly into thin air from the Headquarters of the Police Force where it was been held for safe keeping. Chief Registrar Ossie Walsh told the local media that all the established procedures for the holding of the keys were followed.

However, more than three days after its disappearance the keys are yet to be found and the Police say they have mounted an investigation.

The Registry houses all the country’s birth and death records, land and other property titles, legal documents, and evidence used in court cases. Authorities remained tight lipped on whether the keys were used to gain access to the buildings and whether any documents have been tampered with.

In 1979, during the height of political unrest challenging the Patrick John government the Registry building was burnt to the ground resulting in the loss of several key documents.
