Miami, Florida (TDN) -- Lawyers for the family of Casey Schulman, a fourth year student at the University of Virginia who died in a boating accident in Dominica have filed a civil complaint in Miami against. the Institute of Shipboard Education d/b/a Semester at Sea, Anchorage Hotel LTD, Global Citizens Travel, LLC, and Fountaine-Pajot S.A.
In December 2012, Schulman who was visiting Dominica with other students from the University of Virginia died after receiving injuries from the propeller of a boat captained by Andrew Armour of Anchorage Hotel ltd.
At the time Schulman was swimming in the waters off Mero where the boat had made a stop and was hit when the captain reversed the boat.
The complaint alleges among other things that the boat captain was negligent and that he was not properly trained nor licensed to captain the boat. It further claims that the other defendants were also negligent and were somehow complicit in the death of Schulman.
Kellogg Huber Hansen Todd Evans & Figel, PLLC of Washington DC have been retained as co-counsel to represent the Schulman family.
Earlier this year, Dominican authorities charged Armour with manslaughter in the death of Schulman and he is awaiting trial.
