Tortola, BVI (TDN) --
Dominica’s reigning beauty Queen Nadira Lando has captured the Miss Caribbean World (MCW) Pageant held at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Tortola on Saturday May 5, 2012.
Miss Lando came ahead of runners-up Abigail Hyndman Miss British Virgin Island, followed by Consuelo Dupal Miss St Lucia, Alina Roberts Miss Cuba, and Miss Curacao Marvia Lawrence.
Lando’s win has cemented Dominica’s dominance of the premier Caribbean beauty contest with four wins in six years. Her title capture follow wins by Nakita Bruno who won the crown in 2006, Marah Walters in 2008 and Marcia Baptiste in 2010. Bruno served as Lando’s chaperone during the 2012 pageant.
On her way to gaining the top spot in this year’s competition, Lando cupped awards for Miss Photogenic, Best Costume and Best Swimsuit.
Miss United States Virgin Islands Temisha Libert won Best Talent while Miss Dominican Republic Suzan Castano copped Miss Poised and Miss Curacao took the prize for Miss Congeniality.
Lando won from a field of 17 Caribbean beauties with contestants coming from Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Magarita Island, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, US Virgin Island and Venezuela.
The Miss Caribbean World marked the start of the regional pageantry season to be followed by the Miss Carival next month, then the Miss Caribbean Jaycees and the Miss Caribbean Culture.
