Tremors Rock Northern Part of Dominica
Thomson Fontaine

Over the past week, several earth tremors rocked the northern part of Dominica as bewildered residents inundated local radio talk shows voicing their concerns. By some estimates, more than 500 tremors were felt within a space of two days, although some were hardly discernable.

The tremors were felt from Coulibistrie to Vielle Case. Scientists at the Seismic Research Center at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, said that there was no cause for alarm as this was well in keeping with the volcanic activity on the island. Dominica is known to have at least eight active volcanoes. Two years ago several tremors were felt in the Roseau area, which is situated in the South West part of the Island.
