PM Charles Hospitalized
PM Suffering from Economy Class Syndrome

by: Thomson Fontaine

Prime Minister Pierre Charles remained hospitalized in good condition in Martinique where he was airlifted last weekend for treatment. The Prime Minister had earlier complained of severe chest pain, and has undergone extensive testing at the Martinique hospital.

Hospital officials have reported that the Prime Minister is in good condition and should be released within the next few days.

This is the second time in two weeks that Prime Minister Charles has been hospitalized. One week before been flown to Martinique, he was released from the Princess Margaret Hospital in Dominica after receiving treatment for blood clots in the leg.

He apparently suffered the condition known as Economy Class Syndrome after traveling to Seoul South Korea on official government business.

In the absence of the Prime Minister who is also Minister of Finance, the 2002 budget was presented to Parliament on Monday June 24 by acting Prime Minister, Osborne Riviere who is the Minister of Trade.
