Setting the Record Straight Honorable Roosevelt Skeritt - Minister of Education
I welcome the article by in your last issue on internet in rural schools by Dr. Finn, but would like to point out some inconsistencies with the stated facts.
To begin, there are a number of rural schools, which have access to computers and the internet (the exact statistics can be made available). The ministry of education has a rural library service, which visits the rural communities on a consistent basis. In addition, books have been made available to schools and with the assistance of trained librarians many libraries have been developed.
So to give the impression that we are worse than the 70's and 60's is unfair. Having said that though, I am always prepared to work with anyone who wants to contribute further to our education system.
