Autobiography of Dominica's First Chief Minister to be Released Press Release
Franklin Baron, the Man, the Myth and the Mission
A new book is soon to be released about the life and times of
Mr. Franklin Andrew Baron, the first Chief Minister of Dominica. The 300 page book details the meteoric rise of Mr. Baron, from being a 22 year old member of the Roseau Town Council in 1945 to becoming the most powerful member of the Legislative Council in the 1950s.
It analyzes Mr. Barons political defeat in 1961 by Mr. Edward O. Leblanc, his success as a shrewd and successful businessman in the 1960s and 1970s and his emergence between 1980 and 1995, as one of the most powerful men in the Dame Eugenia Charles administration.
The book also chronicles Mr. Barons involvement in the local media and his legacy as one of the most significant voices advocating a programme of economic self sufficiency for Dominica.
Titled, Franklin Andrew Baron, The Man, The Myth and The Mission, the biography is authored by Dominican writer and former lawyer, Irving W. Andr. It is published by Pond Cass Press and printed by the University of Toronto Press in Toronto, Canada.
The book will be available in local bookstores in August. It is expected to generate a great deal of debate on Dominicas past and its future since it provides provocative insights into the growth of Party Politics in Dominica and the role of a number of political figures including Mrs.Phyllis Shand Allfrey, Mr. Emmanuel Loblack and Mr. N.A.N. Ducreay, Mr. E.O. Leblanc and Mr. R.B Douglas in that process.
This is the ninth published book of Mr. Andr who presently presides as a Justice in the Ontario Court of Justice, Ontario, Canada. It is anticipated that the biography of Mr. Frank Baron will be officially launched in Dominica shortly. VIEW COVER
