Cocaine seized in Hillsborough, Harrison Warrrington, Terrance Christopher, Brian Etienne, Cleve Gabriel, and Joes St Jean.
Roseau, Dominica (TDN) -- Police in Dominica say they have stepped up their efforts in combating drug trafficking on the island following two major cocaine busts within the space of four days.
On Tuesday August 14, 2012 in a daylight raid, Police accompanied by members of the Customs and Excise Division seized 40 000 grams of cocaine at a residence in Hillsborough and arrested Harrison Warrington, Terrance Christopher and Brian Etienne for possession of the illegal substance.
Just a few days earlier the Dominica coast guard interdicted a small boat just outside of Roseau with more than 100 000 grams of cocaine and arrested Cleve Gabriel and Jones St Jean in the process. The five men arrested have all been formerly charged and are awaiting their day in court.
The more recent arrests come just one month after five men were held and charged for importing and attempting to distribute 30 000 grams of cocaine and a little over a year when Police captured four men wounding one in the process with 45 000 grams of cocaine.
Many in Dominica now speculate that Drugs which before were simply transshipped through Dominica are finding their way on the streets of Roseau and communities around the island. Police estimate that the drugs seized to date are worth well over $20 million on the street.
To date none of the cases have been heard before the courts and those charged have been granted bail.
