Kavem Hodge wins Cricketer of the Year Award

Roseau – Dominica (TDN) The Cavaliers Sports Club, the reigning Dominica Premier League Cricket Champions, held its annual awards ceremony at the National Stadium this weekend.

The function was attended by the President of the Dominica Cricket Association, Emmanuel Nanthan, and the Honourable Justina Charles, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture, who gave the feature address.
Minister Charles in her address, commended the Club for its effort in mentoring and developing young cricketers in Dominica and challenged Cavaliers to help other teams develop into clubs, so that there can be more opportunities for young players to become part of an organization with sustainability.
President Tom Lafond indicated that the Cavaliers Club would be very willing to host a seminar for interested teams and other persons on how to develop and maintain a sports club.
In the main feature of the evening, the following cricketers received awards for outstanding performances:
• Joel Mingo – for taking a Five (5) wickets haul against Tremors.
• Odiama Honore - for taking Twenty-six (26) wickets for the season with One (1) Five (5) wicket haul.
• John Fabien – for scoring, One (1) century and Two (2) Five (5) wicket hauls.
Award for most runs in the Season went to team captain Jerlani Robinson, who scored a total of Three Hundred and Ninety-one (391) runs for the season with Two (2) centuries.
Cricketer of the year award was won by Kavem Hodge who received the Jerome Pierre Award. Hodge scored a total of Two Hundred and Ninety-one (291) runs for the season and took Twenty-one (21) wickets. He is on the first team eleven of the West Indies U-19 cricket squad.
Prizes were provided by Sprint Express, sponsor of Cavaliers Premier team and New India Insurance, sponsor of the intermediate team.
