Flooding and landslides in Dominica during heavy rainfall

Massacre, Dominica (TDN) — Dramatic video of the flooding in Dominica has surfaced just days after heavy rainfall triggered massive flash floods and landslides in the West and South of the island. People prayed and others screamed as raging torrents of water poured down the streets of Massacre. The video was released by Earnest Louis.
Heavy rainfall in Dominica due to the passage of tropical storm Ophelia just North of the island has left a path of destruction in its wake.
Up to four inches of rainfall were reported in some areas as rivers swelled and water washed away cars and property
In Massacre and Coulibistrie several cars were swept away as roadways turned into raging rivers. In several parts of the country roads were cut off and villages isolated as the heavy rains triggered several landslides.
There were no reports of death or injury.
Dominica’s emergency committee was scheduled to meet late on Wednesday to discuss the situation and a state of emergency may be declared.
