(New Jersey - TDN) Hundreds of Dominicans leaving in the Tri State area in the US North East are expected to flock to Irvington, New Jersey on Saturday July 30 from 6:00 P.M. to see an exquisite display of Dominican culture.

The Know Your Culture group of New Jersey is at the forefront of sustaining Dominica’s unique cultural heritage. Over the past year, the group has been called upon to perform at several official functions including in Washington DC, New York and elsewhere in the United States.

And always, the response is the same. Patrons cheer widely, and Dominicans always feel a renewed sense of being Dominican as they witness the color and extravaganza of the Belaire, Quadrille, Heel and Toe, Flirtation, and Mazook.

Group members range in age from 3 years old to 70. Yet, the exuberance and pride is equally on display in the young and old. On Saturday, the stage will be set with a live Jing Ping band evoking that sense of nostalgia and taking patrons to that wonderful place of a uniquely Dominican culture.

Indeed, most Dominicans can identify with those unique Jing ping sounds and the dancers have promised to dazzle with their amazing variety of dances, costumes and color. Beyond the dances, patrons can expect to see an amazing array of the ‘Wob’.

A truly commendable way to keep our culture alive and well. What is even more inspiring is the whole hearted embrace by Dominicans living overseas of that part of our heritage which readily comes alive in Dominica during its independence celebrations.

What is even more gratifying is that we don’t have to wait until November to relish in that wonderful sound, feel the music, and dance together on the shoulders of our ancestors.

The Know Your Culture Group has ignited the cultural flame and for Dominicans, particularly those living in New York and New Jersey a wonderful opportunity to join in and celebrate a truly Dominican moment.
