OAS awards six scholarships call for applications

The Dominican.net Newsdesk

The Organization of American States (OAS) Department of Human Development have awarded six fellowships to Dominican nationals for the period January 2010 to March 2011, each with a maximum annual value of US $30, 000.

Two of the fellowships were awarded at the doctoral level to Nazarine William-Titre of Grand Bay to pursue a PhD in Instructional and Curriculum Supervision, and Careen Prevost of St. Joseph who will pursue a Doctorate in Educational, and Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies.

Kenneth Esprit of Belfast will pursue a Masters in Computer Information (Technology Services Administration and Management) and Ryan Anselm of Grand Bay will do a Masters in Agronomy and Crop Science.

At the undergraduate level, Kimon Joseph of Cochrane will complete a BSc in Engineering and Lucilla Joseph of Bellevue/Chopin in Accounting.

OAS fellowships may cover up to two years of study but scholarships are given on an annual basis consistent with the budgetary framework of the Organization.

There are two types of Graduate fellowships; namely the Self Placed and OAS Placed. With the Self Placed, applicants determine both their course of study and the specific training institution when applying.

In the case of the OAS Placed, applicants specify the course of study and give a general geographic location of the place of study.

The OAS selects the institution within the prescribed geographic location. Preference is heavily weighted towards OAS Placed fellowships. Graduate fellowships may be On Site or Distance.

OAS has a special undergraduate fellowship window strictly for Caribbean nationals. This award is applicable for candidates completing the last two years of undergraduate study outside their country of residence.

Applications for the 2011/12 academic year are currently underway, with a march 15 deadline. More information can be found at OAS Scholarships.
