The West Coast Road project, which will link the capital city, Roseau in the south to the town of Portsmouth in the north moved a significant step closer to implementation following the completion of a detailed survey of the road by a survey team from the Peoples Republic of China.

The Team from the Henan Provincial Communication Planning & Survey Design Institute held a final meeting with Minister for Public Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Ambrose George on Friday, following their two month working visit in Dominica. The team will leave the country later this week.

Two documents were signed during the meeting. The first document signed was the Minutes of Discussions on the Investigation Work of the Roseau to Portsmouth Road Rehabilitation project in Dominica. The second document signed was the Survey and Design Contract for the Roseau to Portsmouth Road Rehabilitation project in Dominica.

It is now expected work will now commence on the final designs on the road, a process which is expected to take a maximum of five months. Work on the final designs will be a collaborative effort between Chinese and Dominican engineers.

In his remarks at the meeting with the Chinese team, Hon. Ambrose George praised their work and commended their high level of proficiency and expertise for their work in Dominica over the last two months.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Minister for Economic Development and Urban Renewal, Hon. Julius Timothy, Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China to Dominica, His Excellency, Deng Boqing, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructural Development, Mr. Nicholas Bruno and Acting Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Public Works, Mr. Kendol Johnson.
