Caracas Venezuela Venezuelas President Hugo Chavez welcomed Dominicas Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to Venezuela just before announcing that he spoke by phone with two hostages, Clara Rojas and Consuelo Gonzalez, who were freed on Thursday by rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.
Skerrit is in Venezuela to hold talks with that countrys leader. The visit of the Dominica leader comes just one month shy of a year since President Chavez visited Dominica.
It is widely expected that Skerrit will discuss trade and economic relations with that country. Venezuelan President Chavez has been a strong supporter of the young leader and has donated millions of dollars to Skerrit to help him provide housing to Dominicans.
Chavez was also the first leader to send assistance to Dominica after Hurricane Dean, and have promised to open an oil refinery in that country. He is also supplying Dominica with petrol under the Petro Caribe Agreement, and in 2007 provided assistance to help pave the countrys roads.
