Cable and Wireless is Headline Sponsor for Dominica's Carnival and Calypso Competition
by The Dominican.net News Desk

History was created on January 16, 2005 when Cable and Wireless Dominica signed an agreement with the National Development Corporation for the Sponsorship of Carnival Celebrations for the next three years to the tune of EC$575,000 (US $ 213, 000).

The three year contract which will see Cable and Wireless as the headline sponsor until carnival 2008 was signed Monday morning during a ceremony at the Fort Young Hotel in the presence of a number of Government officials including Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Ministers Yvor Nassief and Loreen Bannis-Roberts of the Ministry of Tourism as well as NDC officials, Cable and Wireless staff and the media.

As a prelude to the announcement of the value of Cable and Wirelesss total package contribution, Cable and Wireless Chief Executive Colin James mapped out the companys involvement in carnival spanning a number years from the sponsorship of seven out of eight contestants in one year to the computerization of the judging for carnival shows.

Cable and Wireless is therefore pleased to formally announce its partnership with the National Development Corporation and the Dominica Festivals Commission in staging the The Real Mas in 2006. He added, Cable and Wireless guarantees Mas Domnik 2006 a contribution of over five hundred and seventy-five thousand Eastern Caribbean Dollars, for the sustainability of what will become a much improved product.

The sponsorship will commence with EC$150,000.00 this year, increasing to EC$175,000.00 and climaxing our 30th anniversary year with a quarter million dollar EC$250,000.00 commitment.

The over a half million dollar deal which will include mainly be in cash and part kind, and was described by General Manager of the NDC Vincent Philbert as one which is unprecedented in the events history with the largest such contribution from any single sponsor on record.

Both Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism Loreen Bannis-Roberts expressed governments profound gratitude to Cable and Wireless for the level of commitment to carnival and Dominica by extension.

This historic partnership comes on the heels of another such agreement which was signed on Friday January 6th between Cable and Wireless and the Dominica Calypso Association solidifying a three-year winning partnership of more than $130,000.00.
