New York, New York (TDN) Dominica’s prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit has appointed Loreen Bannis Roberts as his country’s United Nations Ambassador. The appointment comes after the last UN ambassador Vince Henderson was appointed ambassador to the United States and the Organization of American States (OAS).

Hubert Charles who was Dominica’s ambassador in Washington recently retired from public service.

Bannis-Roberts is the former official liaison to the Dominican Diaspora in the United States Virgin Islands. The Convent High School graduate famously crossed the floor to join the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) following the elections of 2000 after she won the election on a United Workers Party (UWP) ticket.

She served for a few years as a Cabinet minister before resigning from active politics and migrating to the United States Virgin Islands. She is expected to present her credentials to the UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon within the coming days.
