Roseau, Dominica (TDN) Dominica’s prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit has requested that a contract between the Dominica Festivals Commission (DFC) and Flavor, a Nigerian Band be cancelled, citing concern over the Ebola virus.
The band was scheduled to participate in Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival scheduled for October 24 – 27, 2014. Skerrit told a recent news conference in Roseau that he was concerned over the fact that four musicians for the band were scheduled to come from Nigeria where there has been a confirmed outbreak of Ebola.
The authorities in Nigeria say they have effectively stopped the spread of the virus in that country. However, the neighboring countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone continue to struggle to contain the outbreak, which has claimed close to 4 000 lives.
