Portsmouth. Dominica (TDN) In a growing sign of intolerance of public dissent in Dominica, fire officers involved in recent protest actions have all been reassigned.

Just one day after the men attached to the Portsmouth Fire Station successfully got the authorities to provide them with adequate living accommodations they have all being made to pay for their actions.

In a memo signed by the Chief Fire Officer the staff of the fire station was all told that they would no longer serve in Portsmouth. They were ordered to move to other locations around the island with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, head of the Public Service Union Thomas Letang has denounced the actions of the fire chief accusing him of rank victimization of his staff who chose to protest deplorable conditions at the station.

For more than one week the officers slept outdoors complaining that living conditions in the building were intolerable. They were eventually rehoused at the youth center in that town.
