Roseau, Dominica (TDN) -- *** Tourism Awareness Month kicks off with Tourism Youth Congress ***

Discover Dominica Authority will start off activities for Tourism Awareness Month 2014 with the Tourism Youth Congress on May 1, 2014. The Tourism Youth Congress is mirrored on the Tourism Youth Congress organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

The congress is open to secondary school students between 14 – 17 years old and is structured to mirror a CTO Board of Directors Meeting. Students must present their views on one of two tourism issues to their fellow Junior Ministers of Tourism and will also be asked a mystery question.

Confirmed participants are from the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, Orion Academy, Castle Bruce Secondary School and Convent High School. The Tourism Youth Congress will take place at 10am at the Arawak House of Culture on May 1, 2014.

*** Discover Dominica Authority hosts journalists from Tulloch Media Communications ***

Discover Dominica Authority hosted five journalists from Tulloch Media Communications who visited Dominica on April 15, 2014 aboard the Celebrity Summit cruise ship. Tulloch Media Communications produces The Maxine Tulloch Show which is aired on CaribVision in 21 Caribbean countries and on Cablevision in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. While in Dominica, journalists conducted interviews with key tourism stakeholders and visited Morne Bruce, Botanic Gardens and Trafalgar Falls.

*** 12th OECS Council of Tourism Ministers Meeting to be held in Dominica *** Dominica will host the 12th meeting of the OECS Council of Tourism Ministers meeting this week. The meeting will be held at the Atlantique View Resort and Spa in Anse de Mai on April 24, 2014. Ministers and tourism officials from Anguilla, St. Lucia, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, Martinique and the Caribbean Tourism Organization are expected to attend this meeting.

The meeting commences with an opening ceremony at 8am on April 24th and ends with a press conference during which the conclusions of the meetings will be made public. Prime Minister of Dominica Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit is expected to address the meeting during the opening ceremony.

*** Discover Dominica Authority sponsors cricket festival organized by the Dominica Guadeloupe Association ***

Discover Dominica Authority partnered with the Dominica Guadeloupe Association who hosted a cricket festival in Guadeloupe from April 19 – 20, 2014. Officials of the Sports Division, Dominica Cricket Association, Cavaliers Sports Club, elite cricket umpire Billy Doctrove, Ministers Rayburn Blackmore and Reginald Austrie also participated in the cricket festival.

The objective of the festival was to develop kiddies’ cricket in Guadeloupe. President of the Dominica Guadeloupe Association, Mr. Maymont Paul stated that the festival was a success and thanked all the representatives from Dominica who contributed to its success.
