Roseau, Dominica (TDN) -- The Dominica Police was today reporting a relatively crime and violence free carnival season following two days of street jump-up in the country’s capital and in villages across the island.
Thousands of revelers crammed the streets of the capital sporting bright costumes and dancing to the pulsating rhythms of live mobile bands and hi-fi music. The street jump-up started on Monday and continued intoTuesday.
The street parade also featured seven time calypso King ‘De Dice’ and Miss Dominica 2014 Janet. Dice won a keenly fought contest keeping out veterans Bobb, Webb, Hunter, Beno, Superior Pickey, Boople Black Diamond, and new comers Wave and Lady Leona.
At the Miss Dominica Beauty contest, which took place last Friday, Francine Baron from Grand Bay outshone Donella Riviere of Roseau who placed first runner up, and Octavia Prosper of La Plaine who placed third.
Miss Dominica 2014 won the awards for best swimwear, best performing talent, best response to question and best in costume.
